A few years ago I was in San Diego and had a chance encounter with a SEAL mini-sub driver and was impressed with everything about him. So when this article came along, I was reminded of that encounter and the amazing capabilities of our elite SEALs.
The article describes a new Shallow Water Combat Submersible (SWCS) that will deliver United States Navy SEALs and their equipment for special operations missions. Called the Mark 11, it carries a crew of six: a pilot, a co-pilot/navigator and four passengers. The SWCS can be deployed from surface ships, land and Dry Deck Shelters (DDS) on submarines — although the third option is preferred for stealth reasons. The article also discusses new Dry Combat Submersibles and an effort to upsize the Dry Deck Shelters.
